March 2011

Date Sent: 08/09/2011

Message from the President

Dear Members,
Welcome to 2011! The new year brings a fantastic range of “can’t miss” opportunities for NOHRPS members.

It’s unfortunate that our first time to be together this year won’t be until March! We appreciate everyone’s understanding about the last minute cancellation of January’s meeting, featuring Gail Steinel, due to a weather-related flight cancellation. Program Chair Brian Broadbent is working with Gail to determine a possible new date for that program.

In November, your Board voted to take advantage of an enhanced membership arrangement with HRPS National. This action provides you, our members, with an HRPS (HR People and Strategy) Affiliate Membership. Your Affiliate Membership provides you with many new benefits, including:
• $50 Discount on People & Strategy Journal Subscription (hard copy)
• Free access to archive issues of People & Strategy journal (online)
• Online access to the HRPS Knowledge Center
• Business Book Summaries from BBR®
• $100 Discount on HRPS Global Conference Registration
• Executive Membership with Human Capital Institute (HCI)
• Exclusive Benefits from the Institute for Corporate Productivity (i4cp)

This enhanced relationship with HRPS also provides enhanced value to NOHRPS by providing additional programmatic opportunities and sharing of best practices and resources with other affiliate leaders. All NOHRPS members should have received a recent email from HRPS with details on how to access these enhanced benefits. If you did not receive that information, please let us know.

Another recent action of your Board is the approval of a $25 dues increase, raising our annual membership fee to $150. NOHRPS has not raised dues since the new millennium, and the increase is necessary to maintain our quality of offerings. This new increase takes effect on July 1, 2011.  We appreciate your understanding.

Are you interested in becoming more involved with NOHRPS? Every two years a new Board is elected. In preparation for the new term, which commences this summer, Vice President Rob Gilmore is chairing our Nominating Committee. If you have any questions or interest in serving please get in touch with Rob.

I look forward to seeing you at our March meeting. Meanwhile, if you have any questions, comments or suggestions, please do not hesitate to get in touch with me or any other member of the Board.

President - Northeast Ohio Human Resource Planning Society

Summary of Past Program - January 2011

Well, Old Man Winter was not kind to NOHRPS in January. Sadly, it was not even the Cleveland side that did us in. Rather New York City's own east coast blast prevented Gail Steinele from getting a plane, train or automobile to Cleveland. It was a shame as she is a fine speaker. The Program Committee wants to make good on this lost meeting. We have talked to Gail and are trying to have her present in the month of May. She will let us know if that is possible at the end of February. Stay tuned.

In the mean time we are gearing up for our March 10th meeting at the Cleveland Clinic in South Euclid (the old TRW WHQ.). Tom Gubanc, Sr. Director of Wellness Enterprise, is responsible for directing the strategic and tactical planning, development and coordination of the Clinic's Wellness services and products. This is a topic many of you had requested. Given health care costs and trends, it should be timely and provide innovative strategies to manage our health care costs.

See you in March.  Brian and Janine
